This year's "AIMS Winners" will present a joint recital in the Embassy Atrium on October 28th featuring German Lieder, opera and operetta.
The American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz (AIMS) is the leading summer music program in Europe. Now in its 45th year, the program is designed to prepare young artists for a career as a professional musician. In six weeks of intense training, every aspect of the craft is honed, then applied, in the more than 30 performances of opera, operetta and Lieder. Many participants feel they learn more in a summer at AIMS than in a year or more at school. And it all takes place in Graz, Austria, one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe.
AIMS was founded in 1969 and initially located in Freiburg, Germany, the program moved to Graz in 1971 to take advantage of the city’s well-established cultural calendar, convenient transportation system and excellent performance venues. In 1985, the focus of the program expanded to emphasize vocal technique, choosing repertoire appropriate for the voice, perfecting audition techniques and building other skills required for a professional music career. Since its founding, AIMS singers have found jobs in European opera houses every year and many attribute their early success to their experiences at AIMS.
As a non-profit organization, AIMS is supported by the extraordinary work and passion of many volunteers, and the support of thousands of American donors, Graz citizens who support and attend the concerts, the City of Graz, and the Federal Province of Styria.
