In the cold winter months of the year 1866/67 Johann Strauss II composed the world-famous Blue Danube waltz – the melody to which couples around the world swing into the New Year. In 2017 The Blue Danube celebrates its 150th anniversary, if that's not a reason to celebrate! Therefore, join the ACFDC at the special "The Blue Danube Reloaded" event.

The ACFDC organized a short film competition to bring the classical waltz into the age of multimedia and film, the best five submissions will be awarded at this event. In addition, Pianist Burnett Thompson will perform waltzes by Wayne Shorter, Richard Rodgers, Scott Joplin, Frederic Chopin, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, himself, and finally his own transcription of Johann Strauss’s Blue Danube Waltz.

Since attending the Hochschule für Musik (Music University Vienna), Mr. Thompson has been a leader in the Washington music community. His activities range from chamber music with members of the National Symphony Orchestra to musical scores for silent film, numerous acclaimed recordings, performances with traditional Chinese musicians throughout China and the U.S., and his own teaching studio. He is the director of concert programming for Castleton in Performance, Hill Center Concert Series, Jazz on Jackson Place at the White House Historical Association and Piano Jazz at the Arts Club. At the Austrian Cultural Forum, Mr. Thompson has presented the Christmas in Vienna concert, the music of pianist/composer Friedrich Gulda, and a poetry/music collaboration with Viennese actor Felix Kurmayer. He stands out for his wide range of repertoire from Bach to Bebop, and an extensive knowledge of Chinese traditional music.

Let us surprise you, what else we have up our sleeve for this special evening!
