Birds Against Hurricanes | jazz Concert

Join us in welcoming the mesmerizing trio BIRDS AGAINST HURRICANES with bandleader Alex Pinter (guitar/ukulele), Christian Bakanic (accordion) and Viola Hammer (piano) to the ACF DC. The sound of the trio is characterized by strong melodies and an awareness of space. The group has played on some of the best stages in Austria, and is just starting to make their foray into the international jazz scene as well.

The trio was founded in 2016 by Alex Pinter, who wanted to write compositions and arrange music using the rare combination of guitar, ukulele, piano and accordion. Without drums, bass or horns, a unique sound is created, which presents its own challenges, as each musician has to play rhythm, melody, accompaniment and improvisation in equal measure. The ORF, the Austrian national broadcasting agency, became aware of the trio and recognized their album entitled :fluegge: in April 2019 as an ORF-Oe1-Edition Album of the Month. Fluegge is the German term for a bird who is ready to leave its nest.

"A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song."
