Join us for an inspiring evening celebrating two iconic figures who have left an indelible mark on literature and culture, Swiss author Max Frisch and Austrian poet and author Ingeborg Bachmann. We look forward to welcoming you for an unforgettable celebration of words, cinema, and culture.

PROGRAM

Stage Discussion: The evening will begin with an engaging expert-led discussion exploring the lives, literary contributions, and cultural impact of Max Frisch and Ingeborg Bachmann. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of their works and the enduring influence of these authors on European literature.

Podium Speakers: Prof. Mary Helen Dupree (Moderator), Prof. Peter Filkins (Bachmann Expert), Prof. Paul A. Youngman (Frisch Expert)

Film Screening: Following the discussion, there will be a screening of Ingeborg Bachmann – Journey into the Desert (Ingeborg Bachmann - Reise in die Wüste), directed by the acclaimed Margarethe von Trotta. This film captures the passionate romance between Bachmann and Frisch, it tells the story of Bachmann’s life and her relationships in Berlin, Zurich and Rome, and provides an intimate cinematic glimpse into the world and themes that both authors explored in their works. This film is presented in German with English subtitles.

Wine Reception: A selection of Swiss and Austrian wines will be served before the start of the event, offering guests an opportunity to mingle and celebrate the cultures of both nations.
