Dance, Dance, Otherwise We Are Lost | Klaudia Tandl & Gisela Jöbstl

  • Embassy of Austria 3524 International Court Northwest Washington, DC, 20008 United States (map)

The ACF DC welcomes mezzo-soprano Klaudia Tandl and pianist Gisela Jöbstl for a concert celebrating the many varieties and facets of dance with the program “Dance, Dance, Otherwise We Are Lost”.

The program features 24 works by 20 composers from various musical eras and styles. Divided into five sections, the concert explores all facets of dance, inspired by Pina Bausch’s quote: “Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost!” Some pieces, such as Schubert’s Der Jüngling und der Tod and Saint-Saëns’s Danse Macabre, fall into the category Dance and Death. Others, like Berlioz’s Le Spectre de la rose, represent Dance and Love. The concert continues with mystical songs from Dance of the Stars and culminates in a celebration of Dance and Joy of Life, featuring compositions by Benjamin Britten, Leonard Bernstein and Cécile Chaminade. In honor of the Johann Strauss Jubilee 2025, the evening concludes with unforgettable pieces from famous operettas, such as Die Fledermaus.

The event will be followed by a wine reception.
