Martin Listabarth | SOLO PIANO

  • Embassy of Austria 3524 International Court Northwest Washington, DC, 20008 United States (map)

We welcome the Austrian jazz pianist and composer Martin Listabarth for a concert at the Austrian Cultural Forum Washington DC.

Martin Listabarth will present selections from his latest albums, Dedicated and Postcards, offering a captivating blend of storytelling and jazz. His compositions are inspired by landscapes, cities, people, and personal encounters. Martin Listabarth’s music is a treasure trove of solo piano technique, running the full spectrum from soft and melancholic to dramatic and bold. His music is deeply rooted in jazz, but also moves between classical and pop—with a touch of oriental esprit. Shimmering, classical-inspired ballads give way to blues-infused vamps and high-octane swing. The result is a collection of music that is both playful and challenging, accessible yet complex—heightened by the narrative that inspires each song.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Martin Listabarth is a jazz pianist, composer, improviser, and bandleader, as well as an excellent musical storyteller whose music begins exactly where words no longer suffice. He studied both jazz piano and classical piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. His two solo albums Short Stories and Dedicated, as well as his latest trio album Postcards have attracted international attention, with the British Pianist Magazine describing him as “one to watch”. Listabarth, who is part of NASOM 2023/24 (The New Austrian Sound of Music), has performed at several venues and international festivals throughout Europe, Asia and South America. These include Porgy & Bess, Wiener Musikverein, ORF Radiokulturhaus, Piano City Madrid, Tastentage Klosters, Gjon Mili Jazz & Blues Festival, International Jazz Piano Festival Kalisz, Jazzunique Festival, Haskovo Jazz Festival, and Ciclo de Jazz Europeo Lima. In 2024, Martin Listabarth will be performing on stages in Europe, Africa, North America, and Latin America.
